Person Centred Counselling

Counselling isn’t about giving advice or instructions. You are the expert on you and my role is to help you explore and process all the parts that make you who you are.

Person centred counselling can help with depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, loss, relationships and just about anything that life has brought.

By gently exploring the present and the past and accepting all that has been and all that we are, it becomes possible to see a way forward. For many people the terms above aren’t there in isolation, there can be many things happening all at the same time.

A jumbled up jigsaw doesn’t become a picture just because you look at it, it takes a little time, but piece by piece, with kindness and patience, it suddenly builds to something that can be made sense of.

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change”

Carl Rogers

Prices from £45 for 50 minutes.

Counselling for All

Sometimes we look at our lives and it can seem like the pieces just don't quite fit together. There can be many reasons for this, and I am here to help you explore your own story.

As a BACP registered person-centred counsellor, I believe that every individual has the ability to reach their own potential. I will hear your story, listen to what you need and help you to find a way forward.

Anxiety, depression, grief, loss and trauma can feel overwhelming at times. We all have mental health, be it good or not so good, I'm here to help move along that spectrum to a place of better mental health.

Grief and Bereavement

As a Cruse bereavement support volunteer I have additional training in this area.

I recognise that there are no rules to grief, no pattern or expectation with loss. There is no ‘getting over it’, that loss is part of you forever, but it is possible to grow life around that loss, and happier times will come again.

I can hold space for you to allow you to grieve and remember the person that is no longer here. There are no brave faces needed here, here is a space where you can cry, you can laugh, you can get mad at them for leaving you. It’s your space and there is no judgement here.

Athlete Support

Through my own running journey, I have developed an understanding of how the body and mind need to work in harmony to result in a happy and fulfilled athlete, and this relates to many sports beyond running.

I can support you through challenges, choices and success.

I can also support you through tougher times, and in particular through injury.

I hold a UK Athletics coaching license, which allows me to understand your needs, but this isn’t about coaching an athlete, this is about supporting you as an individual and prioritising your psychological wellbeing through the highs and the lows.

Pet loss

The first steps I made to becoming a counsellor was working with Blue Cross animal charity as a pet bereavement support volunteer. I have also loved and lost many animals.

It can be hard when we lose a pet to find someone who really understands what that loss means. We still live in a world where compassionate leave doesn’t apply for animals in many companies. But how does anyone have the right to define then magnitude of your loss? Pets give us what many humans don’t, unconditional love, they are for many integral family members, and that loss can be felt just as deeply as the loss of a human relative.

Pet loss is not always straightforward, sometimes (and often) it is humans who have to make a choice for their pet. This decision is not easy and sometimes just talking this through can really hel.

Walk and Talk

Meeting at either Rutland Water or Burghley House, we take the therapeutic session outside. Perfect for people who love to be outdoors or for those that find online therapy or the idea of being in a room difficult. Walking side by side brings a balance to the relationship, we are in that moment together, I am not leading you, this helps give autonomy in the sessions.

Being outdoors and being active is well known for releasing endorphins which are known for helping us feel better. There is also a strong connection between body and mind and sometimes getting the body moving helps to get our thoughts moving. Being in nature can also increase mindfulness and help us to feel present in the moment.

Like the therapy itself, you set the pace. Sometimes it will be about keeping moving forward, sometimes we might use a bench and just sit for a while. I will walk with you and be with you on this journey.  Like all therapy, all of our sessions are covered by the same confidentiality and ethics.

You do not have to be a walker to benefit from walk and talk, you do not have to be fit. If walking slowly and then sitting and taking a rest is enough, then that is ok. I often get asked about the weather. Well, if you are happy to go ahead, then I am too. With right clothing, a walk in bad weather can be very healing. If that’s not for you, then we can reschedule or we can find an alternative way to meet for that day.

Price: £50 for 1 hour
